A private school in Dandora, an eastern suburb in Nairobi, Kenya, has decided to change its name to honor Lupita Nyong’o. The school, formerly known as Formerly Eagles Safe Hands Education Centre, will now be called Lupita Bright Stars Educational Centre.
In an interview with The Nairobian, the school’s founder, Alice Anyasi Shiangala, discussed why she decided to change the name.
“I decided to rename my school after watching Lupita’s father, Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, being interviewed by Jeff Koinange on KTN. I was touched by her story. She is a true star who deserves better recognition. She has brought fame to our country,” she said.
“I talked to my husband about changing the school’s name and he agreed. We are now working on the legal process, including replacing old signposts and banners.”
The school is also planning on expanding its curriculum.
