LupitaA week after signing with Hollywood talent agency CAA, Lupita Nyong’o, along with Scarlett Johansson,  has been tapped to join the Jon Favreau-directed live action reboot of “The Jungle Book”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nyong’o, 31, is said to be in final talks to play Rakcha, the mother wolf who adopts Mowgli, while Johansson, 29, will reportedly play the role of Kaa the python.

Idris Elba will play the movie’s main villain, the man-eating tiger Shere Khan, THR reports.

While the main part of Mowgli has not yet been cast, a release date for the film is set for Oct. 9, 2015.

The casting news comes as one of the first big films Nyong’o is said to be attached to, after winning her Oscar for “12 Years a Slave” in February.

    I’m happy that she’s working, but weren’t there major issues with racial undertones in the original movie? Since Idris has also signed on, I hope that this version will remove any negative racial undertones.

      Right now, Lupita needs to keep working while she is hot. An Oscar is not a guarantee of a long career for a young actress of any color.

      I agree, not just because of the Oscar win, but she is the first dark skinned woman to be embraced by the mainstream in a really long time. Her even being offered this role seems to be hollywood trying to “put her in her place” or something.
