Kanye West has waxed poetically about Jay-Z being his “big brother” and mentor, but the platinum-selling rapper was conspicuously absent for Ye’s big day.
After a weeklong Parisian celebration, that included a private tour of the Palace of Versailles and brunch at the home of designer Valentino Garavani, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West finally tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Florence, Italy on Saturday.
Leading up to the nuptials, folks expected KimYe’s wedding to be a grand affair, but Kardashian told Vogue magazine they would keep things cozy.
“People are probably assuming we’re going to have this massive wedding and I think that it will be, but intimate. Two-hundred people, just all of our closest friends.” West added, “We could get the Hall of Mirrors or something. We could turn up.”
The wedding took place atop Fort Belvedere in Florence in a mansion built by the Grand Duke Ferdinando I de’ Medici in 1590.
The couple was surrounded by a host of celebrity pals including Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, LaLa Anthony, Lorraine Schwartz, Rachel Roy, Jonathan Cheban, Jaden Smith, Q-Tip, and Larsa and Scottie Pippen. But Beyoncé and Jay-Z were absent.
Despite the absence of his “brother,” Kanye appeared excited and nervous about his big day. A source told People Ye was “nervous” and “swigging obsessively from a bottle of water” ahead of the ceremony.
“He clearly knew the gravity of what he was about to do,” the source said. “This morning he was all smiles, but as it got closer, you could see that the nerves were kicking in. It’s common for most grooms. I’ve seen it all before.”
