As Black women, we are always encouraged to be “strong,” selfless, and independent. In the midst of taking care of everyone else, we forget to give ourselves permission to be human. The only way we can fully pursue our passions and keep a healthy mental and emotional balance is if we decide to step outside of our expected “roles.”
We are all complex people. We deserve to love and be loved for more than how we benefit a man or how many burdens we can bear at one time. And, once we step outside of the stereotypes, we have a chance to take charge of our overall well-being.
