When we first became acquainted with hip-hop mogul Damon Dash he was quite the personality. Known to sip Cristal with his then partner and friend Jay-z, his nickname was Champagne Dame. Today,” Champagne Dame” has dropped his former moniker and has grown tremendously.
In an interview with Hip Hop Motivation, the co-founder of Roc-a-Fella Records immediately stated he is not the same guy he was in his twenties. He said, “There’s things that I see that I did on videos when I was younger and I be like ‘damn I was bugging.’” He continued, “Champagne Dame, that dude, he be buggin, when he was younger. I don’t even know that guy.”
Dash, who is now a father, admitted if his son behaved the way he did he would be appalled.
Dash also discusses how his behavior influenced pop culture, his new priorities and so much more. Here are the top five quotes from the interview.
“I can change and my views have changed since then. It’s not about money; it’s about quality of living. It’s not about money; it’s about your family. It’s about being a man; it’s about taking care of your wife and your kids and your family. That’s the only gangster that I want to hear about.”
“It’s not the most positive thing to make a man feel bad cause he can’t make as much money as you.”
“Don’t do horrible things to get it [money], cut corners to get it.”
“When you have kids and you got daughters….that sh** changes you man. Little boys are little different ….when you get girls you start to think about how you want your girls treated.”
“I don’t want a girl to have to worry about young champagne dame because he was terrible.”
