Back in January Under Armour announced the Misty Copeland would be the face of their popular women’s line. Leanne Fremar, Under Armour’s Executive Creative Director, called Copeland “a game changer.” And with the recent release of Copeland’s new commercial, she definitely is.
Copeland’s ad begins with her balancing on pointe, while you can hear a young girl’s voice reading a rejection letter. Although the rejection letter wasn’t a real letter received by Copeland, she did say she’s had her fair share of similar rejections. As the camera pans over Copeland’s body, the letter being read lists all of the reasons why the applicant didn’t make the cut. “You have the wrong body for ballet”, which is something too commonly heard by young girls starting out in ballet.
But Copeland proves the letter wrong by showing that her body is the right body.
Along with Copeland’s new ad, the company launched a new website, I Will What I Want, which “celebrates the will to find inner strength and to follow no one.”
