I have never been the gal to sit around daydreaming about her wedding day. However, I often joke about having my “just in case husband”— often referred to as the “backup”— if all else fails. Little did I know this was really a phenomenon.
A new survey confirmed half of women have a “plan b” on standby just in case their current relationship ends. The survey conducted by OnePoll, a survey-led market research company, assessed 1,000 married U.K. women. It was discovered nearly 500 of them said they had a “backup” husband. In some cases the participants admitted to having more than one “backup” in mind.
The “backup” is likely to be an old friend, who has always had feelings for the woman. Other candidates include an ex-boyfriend or ex-husband, a colleague or someone who they have met at the gym. These candidates have been in participants’ life for at least seven years.
In addition, one out of five women also revealed their “backup” guy would be willing to “drop everything” for her, if she asked. One out of 10 participants said their “just in case” hubby has already confessed his unwavering love. One in four admitted their current spouse has met their “backup,” while one in five admitted he was a friend of their current partner.
A spokesman for OnePoll.com said, “For our research to establish that 50 percent of women in relationships have a ‘Plan B’ is a worrying sign. Men need to be aware of any old friends that turn up out of the blue that’s for sure.”
