Here’s a roundup of all the news you may have missed, but need to know.

Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan decided to take it upon himself and tell Black people what they need to do in order to help eradicate racism. His suggestion? Stop using the N-word. In a piece for the Daily Mail titled, “If Black Americans want the N-word to die, they will have to kill it themselves,” he writes, “Far from ‘owning’ these words, seizing back control with the use of them, I believe it merely serves to empower those who wish to deploy them abusively – and encourage them to continue doing so. Your average dim-witted, foul-mouthed bigot – and there are plenty of them as Twitter can attest – thinks: ‘If they use it, why can’t I?’ They hear African-Americans say the N-word to each other and claim victory: ‘See, that’s what they even call themselves!’” Ok and? Needless to say Black Twitter lit Morgan up and told him to stay out of these affairs. I mean if the NAACP couldn’t get the Black folks to stop using the word, why does Piers Morgan think he can? More importantly, why does he think it’s his job and responsibility to tell Black people what to do? Read the full article here.

Generalizing is never a wise thing he is letting his mouth go off before thinking.

I may get slayed for this, but black folks are good for shooting the messenger. We need to get past the fact that Piers is white and listen to what he is actually saying. He is right. While all black people do not call each other “that word”, the principle behind his point is that if people want to be treated a certain way, they have to treat themselves that way. We really need to become more outraged over the things that we do and say to each other and stop being so emotional just because someone of the “wrong” color called us out. And no, I’m not a sell out. I grew up during the Black Power Movement and am a Pan-Africanist, and I can say without a doubt that no matter where I go, African-Americans are the least respected of all racial groups, the group which I am proud to be a part of. We need to stop this BS with jumping down people’s throats whenever they don’t cosign our tomfoolery. Malcolm X, Garvey, Carmichael, King, et al would shake their heads at the stuff we cosign these days.

Girl you don’t forget Khalid Muhammed. You went in deep, they not ready.

LOL! Oh yes, thanks for the addition. There’s so many bold black kings who would have an issue with where we are right now.

No slaying found on my part….I agree that everyone should stop using the word. The issue is, it is completely naive and foolish for anyone to think that white people will stop using the word just because Black people stop using the word.

White people CREATED the word and its negative connotation as a quick and dirty way to completely terrorize Black people in one fell swoop. Why would they stop using a word that they created for a specific purpose?

It’s like saying that Neo-Nazis will start loving Jewish people if Jewish people love themselves. Guess what? A lot of Jewish people are doing just fine, and there are still Neo-Nazi cells around the world.

Hatred doesn’t disappear because the oppressed people change….Hatred disappears when the oppressors change.

I agree, which is why we need to focus our energy on changing the way we perceive our own culture instead of waiting on Massa to love us. The days of the house negro shucking and jiving for crumbs is over. If we never get to live in the Big House, let’s build our OWN house.

  • ALM247

First of all, not all Black people use the word. The vast majority of people in my family do not use the word.

Second of all, Black people did not create the word or its negative connotation. I do think that everyone needs to stop using the word, regardless of their race, but to think that if Black people take control of the word then racism will all but stop….boy bye!!

Piers needs to have a seat and read some of Audre Lorde’s work on the master’s tools.

And Barbour put a racial slar….wait for it…in an email…you can only imagine what he is saying at his house. Keep in mind, this is the man who had no problem being endorsed by the KKK when he first ran for governor. A lot of the areas in MS have Black majorities, but Barbour and his ilk still get elected…..that’s another Clutch post for another day.

As for story #4, Naya Rivera’s comments on “The View” this morning on the woman being called plus sized were very teling.

As for story #6, Rihanna better get all of those White House visits in while she can, because if these Republicans have their way she’ll never have the chance to “Eh, eh, eh” within 10 miles of the White House ever again.

#6…I’m crying! I see the point through the humor. You are so right!

One thing that is very evident is that some Black folks will always protect his/her master. It’s very sick. SMH. It’s a sickness that has been passed down from gen to gen, and it’s disturbing to say the least.

Lets be clear on something: The eradication of the use of the N-word by black people will NOT end ,or even remotely contribute to the end of the racist sentiments of the bigot. Let’s not kid ourselves. Such an action may greatly improve the collective self-respect among black folk. But that is all. Ending racism is a pointless effort. Defending self from it is the only true objective. How? We have to get our group economic game on point like everybody else. Fight power with power…not words (or the lack thereof a word).
