I was walking down 8th avenue between 36th and 37th when I heard three gunshots, I looked up and said “that wasn’t real was it?” Then I ran cuz it was real, a few feet from me a man was on the ground with a hammer in front of him. The cops had shot and caught The Hammer Guy. #nypd #nyc #imshaking #toocloseforcomfort

He has multiple addresses, but is believed to have been living on the streets. Baril also has multiple arrests, including one for assaulting a police officer.
Baril’s Instagram account is filled with bizarre images and drawings, including one of a hammer with blood dripping off of it. Baril was taken to Bellevue in critical condition, where he underwent surgery. He’s expected to live, law-enforcement sources said.
