misty-copelandMisty Copeland, along with the American Ballet Theater, is heading to Detroit. On the heels of becoming the ABT’s first black principal dancer, Copeland is joining ABT’s cast of The Sleeping Beauty at the Detroit Opera House in spring 2016.

Copeland, who recently became engaged to her boyfriend of 10 years, has skyrocketed in ballet over the last couple of years. She not only brings diversity, but it’s a welcomed change, especially to Walter Brown, an official with the Michigan Opera Theater.

Copeland has been a champion for diversity throughout her career and has her star power rises, so will opportunities for other black ballerinas.

Although The Sleeping Beauty opens in the spring, there’s no word yet as to what Copeland’s role will be. Here’s to hoping that she capture the title role.

Certainly, when opportunities come her way, Misty Copeland is making the best out of them. We all have great love and appreciation for Misty Copeland for her talent and for her inspirational words for ballerinas in general. She is a great person and she is certainly inspiring other black ballerinas to fulfill their aspirations too. In her commercials and in her performances, she shows the world that black people not only have the right to do ballet but that historically black people have greatly excelled in the field of ballet too. In 2016, she is coming into the great city of Detroit to do what she loves to do, which is ballet. I wish the best for her and Bless Misty Copeland.

Yes yes yes. My baby sister who is also a black ballerina discovered her and was inspired by her. I will be there and I’m so excited.
