Power 105.1 radio host Charlamagne is known for speaking his mind–even when he’s dead wrong (which is often). But his latest pontification about Iggy Azalea’s place in hip hop history has many scratching their heads.
On a recent episode of MTV2’s Uncommon Sense, Charlamagne called the Australian rapper “a hip hop legend.”
“Whether you like it or not, Iggy Azalea’s a hip-hop legend,” he said, arguing she debuted in a year “that was very bad for Black people” and thus has been unfairly targeted for her vocal Blackface.
While his fellow co-hosts disagreed with his assessment, Charlamagne held firm.
“I will always give Iggy Azalea her props, I have supported Iggy from day one.”
Listen….bruh…no. Just no.
Like many of you, my head was about to explode listening to Charlamagne ride for his white queen, but thankfully hip hop journalist Ferrari Sheppard came through with the PERFECT response.
