The music gods have finally smiled on us, y’all. It’s been five long years since Erykah Badu dropped an album, but the drought is over.

At midnight on Black Friday, Badu released her highly anticipated mixtape, But You Can’t Use My Phone, a nod to the classic line from her 1997 hit “Tyrone.”

The mixtape features a cover of Drake’s smash, “Hotline Bling” (titled “Cel U Lar Device”) and the Toronto rapper even makes an appearance on Ms. Badu’s joints “U Use to Call Me” and “What’s Yo Phone Number.”

While the melodic album is vintage Badu, the biggest surprise comes at the end when she links up with her former beau, Andre 3000, for “Hello.” While their relationship didn’t work out, it’s clear the pair are musical soulmates.

Creativity is always found in Erykah Badu and her music. Yes, Andre 3000 and Erykah Badu and Andre 300 in a way are musical soulmates. Individuals have waited and anticipated her new music and now the wait is over. I wish more success for Sister Erykah Badu.
