Ava DuVernay just got a whole lot busier. In addition to working on her Queen Sugar series for OWN and signing on to direct Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time, the Selma helmer just inked a deal to write and direct a film about one of fashion’s most iconic moments, the 1973 “Battle of Versailles.”
According to Deadline the film will center on the fashion show at the Palace of Versailles that pitted some of America’s top designers against their French counterparts. While that was exciting enough, the show was also a historic moment for Black models who completely stole the show.
DuVernay will co-write, direct, and executive produce the film for HBO, which will be based on fashion writer Robin Givhan’s book, The Battle Of Versailles: The Night American Fashion Stumbled Into The Spotlight And Made History.
We can’t wait to see it!
