Optimum Care Amla Legend Relaxer

Famed lawyer Mark Geragos is representing a group of Black women in a class action lawsuit against L’Oreal. The lawsuit claims that L’Oreal’s SoftSheen-Carson Optimum Amla Legend No-Mix, No-Lye Relaxer, isn’t as safe as the company claims it to be.

The company states that the relaxer uses Indian fruit oil instead of lye, but it’s actually caused women to have  hair loss, breakage, scalp irritation, blisters and burns.

The lawsuit also states consumers were duped into using it because of celebrity endorsements from Cynthia Bailey, Tracee Ellis Ross and Michelle Obama’s stylist. In addition to the women’s claims, the lawsuit has included complaints from Amazon reviews, where women have stated their hair fell out after using it.

The suit asked for more than $5 million.
