A judge ordered Nick Gordon to pay $36 million to Bobbi Kristina Brown’s estate Thursday, after he was found responsible for her death.
Judge T. Jackson Bedford Jr. made the decision on Thursday at a court hearing, and once again Gordon didn’t bother showing up, according to TMZ.
Brown’s estate had been seeking $40 million from Gordon — Brown’s former boyfriend — in its wrongful death lawsuit against him, which was filed in October 2015.
Brown’s father, singer Bobby Brown, contended his daughter had a major career ahead of her in the entertainment industry before her untimely passing.
“She was an entertainer. If you were around her, all you would do was laugh. She told a lot of jokes. She was always the life of the party…and anywhere she went,” Brown said Thursday on the stand. “I know she had the talent to be successful.”
The breakdown of the settlement is as follows:
— $1,575,041 for conversion (theft of Brown’s funds), with the maximum charge of $250,000 for punitive damages
—$1,370,877.52 for assault and battery medical damages
—$13 million for pain and suffering, with an additional $4,200,000 because Gordon was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs
—$15,056,000 million for loss of life, factoring in future earning potential
Gordon’s family commented on the settlement saying that he doesn’t have the money and plans on filing for bankruptcy.
